Today we celebrate the 4th of July, Independence Day. If I pretend to be a historian, I would say it was a day that represented a group of immigrants who colonialized the American continent, a day that represented unity and freedom from suppression.

In today’s culture, we see it as a summer holiday, a day to barbecue and celebrate with friends and family. To enjoy the freedom of the day with those we love. To celebrate our freedom to create a memory, to engage with it and to honor with love those who share in it.

For my family, we saw the 4th of July as a family celebration since it was my parent’s wedding anniversary. I was in first grade when I realize the fireworks were not to celebrate my parent’s wedding.  Instead celebrated something more foreign to me, the country’s anniversary. Even into adulthood, I still see this day as a celebration of my parents and the family they created. I am grateful for the freedom of the USA and the sacrifices so many have provided for my freedom.

Today, I have the freedom to sit and write this post. Something I take for granted when so many other bloggers, writers and journalist around the world look over their shoulder with every word they write. I am blessed and grateful for the freedoms in my life. I am free to love and honor the oneness in which I live, free to express through writing my beliefs and creative gifts. Free to send each of you a blessing for a heart and mind to experience the goodness of the Universe and “All” expressing its divine manifestation.

A soul ablaze in the infinite haze,

Burning hot the celestial lot.

A Divine soul free of control.

Free of human thought and

Deprecating hate.

Free of human struggle, torment and greed.

The soul a divine essence

Created perfectly.

A soul never is broken or bruised

Is only block by your human mood.

Your thoughts that grow in the ravishing ego,

Are nothing more than reflections of

Human hurt and your choice to self-deplore.

The true journey we all embark

Is a quest of love

And unity within God’s heart.

This weekend I found myself rushing to finish things and to keep my schedule.   At one point I made myself stop and said, “This is how you miss the best part of your day.”   So I slowed myself down and turned my focus to a poem I wrote in March 2012.  I would like to share it with you as a reminder there are many gifts to see within each day…. don’t let yourself miss them!

Lord, I was running late you see,

when I set off for Sunday Celebration of Thee.

I took the short cut around the town

to skip the traffic lights that slow me down.

I quickly ended up on the Pike

thinking now it would be alright.

In a hurry I rushed,

I rushed down the road and passed the horse farm without a hitch.

I turned the bend a little fast and saw the geese in my path.

I hit the brake and stopped in a blast.

Just in time, as they march one by one in a straight line.

An elder Goose ran up to the car with a squawk to say,

“Hey, there is a speed limit here, didn’t you see?”

One by one they came through the bush,

And impatiently I said, “Oh just fly so I can get on by”

And finally as the line seemed to thin

the little goslings waddled in.

One after another with mother goose on their tail,

They lolly gagged and sauntered in a childish array,

as if they wanted to play.

When all were safely out of the road,

The elder goose squawked, “Go hurry on your way.”

So off I went in a fluster of worry

to arrive on time for the Celebration of Thee.

Up the steep hill by the park I flew

and over the top my car just sailed.

As I landed on the slope going down the road,

I saw a lady and dog a good distance away.

My immediate thought was,

it would be Ok.

So with my foot on the gas I continue on my way.

Yet something was wrong with my approach.

The old dog was slow and appeared to be stiff.

I hit the brakes and this time the dust flew,

scaring the old dog and the lady too.

So I smiled and waved with all my love

And under my breath I said,

“Hurry I’m already late. The celebration won’t wait.”

So as I sat and watched

I said, “See Lord it’s just not my fault that I am late today,

All these things are in my way.”

Finally, as the dog approached the other side I took off for you.

I blew through a stop sign with easy and some care

and arrived with no time to spare.

As I shut down the car, I said, “finally I’m here to give you praise”

And the Lord responded, “You silly girl,

I gave you gifts to see, the order in the geese and new goslings.

I wanted you to stop to see the spirit of me.

The spirit of dog, a divine creature you see.

As I am God and we are one in the same

And share the same letters to our name.

Somehow this morning you’re rushing to me,

Left you blind to my gifts to see.”

Today I post after a long break since my last post. While I read many post as they came into my email. I made a conscious decision to focus on my spiritual practice within me. Many of you knew I had a fabulous trip to China. While I went to a country I did not know and I did not know what to expect, I found a new and higher level of spiritual awakening.

So it is time for me to turn back outward and reignite my passion for writing spiritual poetry. Thank you all for your wonderful, wise and often needed words. I choose to follow many blogs that lift me up and keep me focused on the light of God. You each play a valuable part in my support system and in my spiritual confidence to stay focused. Namaste!

While I was off traveling in China I often thought of what I will post when I return. I was able to read many of your post via email but was not able to access to comment or give a like.   So I will slowly catch up with everyone. I will put together some photos from China and will post them soon.  Until then I have a short poem to share.

Breath frozen in time
Vision clear…
Sight of truth staggering blind.
Heart swells…
Beat locked into mind.
Feet anchored into earth’s grind.
Ego’s lust humbled to the Divine.
Thoughts swirling through the human mind.
Words tied to a fragile twine.

Flowers bloom in the celestial room
Sweet fragrance looms under the midnight moon
Hollowed hearts swoon in love’s lagoon.

Breath woven in time
Vision clear….
Sight of truth no longer blind.
Heart swells
Beat a universal rhythm and rhyme.
Love a place of peace within the Divine.

Flowers bloom in the celestial room
Sweet fragrance looms under the midnight moon
Hollowed hearts swoon in love’s lagoon.

Wrapped in a silk cocoon suspended in the Lord’s light.
The journey of the soul to leave the dark night,
is protected with all God’s might.
In human form when the choice is made
God gives his all for his creation to be saved.
The pain and agony of the dark night
gone as you journey into the light.
The illusions of your thoughts
fade away as if it is ice
melting on a sweltering day.
Within the cocoon of love
there is great inner peace
that nurtures your soul..
The memories of the dark night
a small part of your spirits life.
The “you,” of old,
gone with the alchemy of your soul.
Suspended in light wrapped lovingly in God’s might
Your spirit must rest for what God’s will for you
will require your best.

Throughout my life I have been blessed to meet so many incredible people. They are successful, creative, or just plain wonderful for the love they give. It is easy to remember them for their presence and tangible gifts that I see, hear or receive. Sometimes the most inspiring people to me are the ones that touched many people before me and now journey a path that only a few share with them. They have gone from a dynamic individual, and often a life of service for their family, their community, their church, or for the nation, to a journey much different than the one they once lived. They have gone from their peak of greatness to their physical and mental decline. By the time we meet their abilities are so different than who they once were and who others believed them to be. Some are loved unconditionally, yet many are caught in the emotional struggle of family. Loved ones often fear losing them as they were, and fear seeing them in who they have become. Nursing has blessed me to see the beauty in their journey and to be touched by their spirits presence regardless of the frail physical form. Today I write in honor of the gift of love they give me in sharing their presence.

Ode to an Elderly Women

Living within the wrinkled flesh
Sitting before me looking a mess,
Sucking oxygen to take the next breath.
Hair gray and thin crumpled in a birds nest.
Spoken words inaudible
Rotting odor on your breath.
Eyes glassed over as your
Spirit gazes back at me.
I hear it say, “I’m almost free!”
Your earthly years old and wise
Your soul’s life far beyond the human mind.
What a journey your life has been,
A mother, a wife, a business women,
Who survived life’s strife.
Once a beauty that men craved,
You would flash a smile and wear the fashion craze.
Now a sack of bones that just break,
As your dirty clothing hides your loving grace.
Once athletic, chasing your dream,
Now locked in your past is all you see.
Who you are today you do not know
But the past memories give you a loving glow.

Ode to a Veteran

A man so proud who went off to war
A strong man, husband, father and so much more.
Now shattered, limbless, with an injured brain,
You smile with joy as if you were the same.
Your earthly years young compared too many
Your body worn from the anger of war.
You valiantly gave your physical form
For the love of country that you adore.
Your soul’s life far beyond the human mind.
What a journey you have embarked
As you left your life behind.
The gifts from God is all you see
As I greet your spirit each time we met.
My journey regardless of length in time
Has been blessed by the smile you shine.

seed-of-light-award1

I am honored to be nominated by Soumya for the “Seed of Light” award. I love the name of the award and the idea that my words/poems can be a “seed of light” for another.

Soumya has always been a “seed of light” for me since I started this blog.   She is creative and has tirelessly dedicated herself to her blogs and writing.    Over this past 15 months she has always used her kind and loving words to encourage myself and others. I am very touched and appreciative that Soumya continues to see good in my words.  Please visit it at http://soumyav.wordpress.com and I know you will enjoy and grow through her wonderful post.
I have received other awards since starting this blog and I must admit, I often feel mixed emotions.  It is a lovely gesture, and heart warming to receive appreciation from others who find something meaningful in my words.  Yet, I am still new in my journey and soaking up the images, knowledge of others, learning from their words and views and I often feel not yet ready for the accolades.  Perhaps learning to accept is part of my learning

Many blogs I follow are poetry, spiritual, and religious in nature from all over the world with many different cultural influences.  All of these blogs bring to me a greater understanding of who I am within the loving embrace of God and with each of you in unity within the consciousness.  As a novice blogger I know there are thousands of blogs out there spreading “seeds of light” and inspiring thousands and millions of souls with their photos, art, music and words.   At this time I have only dipped my toe into the sea of blogs. So today I choose to honor Soumya’s acknowledgement with a poem….called “Seed of Light” and I dedicate this to all bloggers who share in love their creativity and the lessons of their journey.

Adrift within the breath of the wind,

      floating to a barren land.

Landing gently among the dirty grain,

bathed so lovingly by the rain.

A seed of light,

      buried by worldly debris.

In a place where no one

      would think it may be.

Hidden in a place without light,

      the seed is a speck…a sparkle…that ignites.

A seed of light sent out by the Lord

is growing on your heart’s shore.

A breath, a sigh, the light illuminates the soul inside.

A twinkle from a star so far

has great power to transform who you are.

Adrift in the life you live

the gift of the soul to give.

A moment in time to take

the Lord’s love into your heart and mind.

An emotion and gift so deep,

the seeds of light become the roots

that anchor you to Divine belief.

A seed of light adrift within the wind

Is a gift the Lord does give.

•*¨*•¸¸¸.•*¨*•☆ •*¨*•¸¸¸.•*

May all your seeds shine in the glory of God’s light!

Namaste, mary

“Of worth I have no season no story left to tell.”

Of hope I have all reason to leave the living hell.

A paper thin skin with little good to give,

no protection from the illusions my life did spin.

Shed of me my ego’s shallow shell.

Leave me basting in purgatory’s well.

My skinless corpse of eons of age,

With more hope than at any other phase

my soul a blaze from the eternal light

My frosted heart melts from the love of God’s sight.

Wrapped in luminous light is this soul’s new flight.

The breath of the lord is the wind that soars.

“My wilderness afire wings are raised immortal to the night”

For my spirit to live forever in light.

The beauty of poetry is in the message to the reader…while it comes from the depth of heart and soul of the poet, it reaches the ears of others and resonates within them as they can and need to hear.

This poem was inspired by Bobbie at Tornadoday.wordpress.com  “ The lines in quotes,” are Bobbies words that inspired this piece. Visit Bobbie’s site to read wonderful poetry and receive inspiration and encouragement.  Namaste, mary
